The Easy Skin Routine That Makes This Tell Me Lies Star Glow

Cat Missal

If you go Instagram crawling for Cat Missal (most likely after binge-watching Hulu’s Tell Me Lies and pulling up her previous work on IMDb), you’ll be surprised to find a small grid – just three posts. Despite her mystery, it’s clear that the 22-year-old actress who plays Bree (one of the only likable characters in TML, IMO) is creative in real life. She reads Kafka, plays guitar, and does body scan meditations after memorizing a heavy script. Her favorite day of the week? Tuesdays. “I think I mostly like how it’s pronounced,” she says. Here, Mishael takes us through a realistic week in her life – what she wears, where she goes, and what she puts on her face. The following was told to Megan Decker and edited for length and clarity.

Sunday

I wake up at home in Los Angeles and head to the farmer’s market. I put on a pair of Converse. Carrying my reusable tote bag, I head out the door. I like to walk around my favorite neighborhoods in the afternoon and browse bookstores. I don’t pick up anything new; I need to take some time to finish something, currently Haruki Murakami’s Kafka on the Shore.
For dinner, I usually make something with vegetables from the market. At night, I bathe with Dr. Till’s Pure Lagoon Salt and put O&M’s Seven Day Miracle Moisturizing Mask [in my hair]. I use whipped shea butter on my body and Origins Energy Boost Gel Moisturizer on my face, then go to bed early.

Monday

On Mondays, I like to start with something creative in the morning. I get up, splash my face with water and put on a lip treatment from Bite [editor’s note: sadly, Bite Beauty has gone out of business], as LA can be dry. I have some breakfast, usually toast and coffee. I write on my guitar outside for a few hours, always using my Sakura Pigma Micron Pen and a Moleskine Notebook. I get work done and cook myself some dinner. At night, I use the Drunk Elephant Jelly Cleanser and the same moisturizer as before.

Tuesday

Tuesday is also one of my favorite days; I mostly like how it sounds. I wake up with the same routine. I shower but don’t wash my hair. I brush my teeth, most recently with Hello’s Charcoal Whitening Toothpaste, morning and night, to brighten my smile. Then I sabotage any progress with a strong cup of Americano from Intelligentsia.
I ran errands, came home, and made brunch. I spent the afternoon editing songs and taking breaks to play with my cats, chicks, and bunnies. In the evening, I wash [my face] with the same cleanser. If I need extra hydration, I use Osea’s, Ocean Essence.

Thursday

On Thursday, I took a day trip to the ocean. I’ve been going fishing with my father since I was a kid. Seeing the sea would give me a better understanding of things. I came home and recited my lines for the upcoming audition.
That night I shower: I scrub with a homemade coffee scrub, exfoliate with Dermalogica’s Rice Powder as soon as I get out, apply moisturizer, and use Youth To The People’s Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Mask. I apply Olaplex No. 9 Bond Protector to my hair Nourishing Hair Serum and let it air dry before bed.

Friday

Fridays are for fun. I get up and put on music. I love Rubin’s “Con Todo el Mundo” album and walk around the house, dancing/cleaning/watering my plants. I light incense: Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa. I love the smell of these things.
I stretch my body and then try to do some work on music. Now I’m trying to put a project together.
In the evening, I’m going to dinner and drinks with friends. I put on Merit Brow 1980 Volumizing Eyebrow Pomade Gel and curled my lashes with Tarte Cosmetics’ Picture Perfect Lash Curler. I dabbed a little Dior Addict Natural Teal Lipstick on my lips and went out in my Levis and Hanes white t-shirt uniform. Although, I wouldn’t recommend wearing white to an Italian restaurant. When I get home, I do a secondary cleanse and moisturize.

Saturday

Saturday mornings I sleep in. Once I’m up, I brew coffee and put on NPR. I love a good diner and there are a lot of good ones in Los Angeles. Today it’s Fred 62 in Los Feliz. I make a pit stop there before heading to the flea market.

I go home and videotape the audition. When taping, I usually put on more makeup for the camera. I use Hourglass’ Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation, blend Merit Beauty’s Flush Balm on my cheeks, and brush on Covergirl’s Lash Blast Volumizing Mascara. I was ready for action.
On Saturday night, I went to the Greek [Theatre]. I put on vintage heeled loafers from Coach and a blazer also plucked. KJ was playing. I had a glass of red wine at the theater and then went home to bed.
